Kira Penner joined Suncorp Valuations in 2021 as a Senior Consultant for the Private Sector team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Kira has residential and commercial valuation consultant experience, real estate appraiser, and market analyst experience, and holds a Bachelor of Business (Real Estate) and Diploma (Urban Land Economics), plus Canadian Residential Appraiser (CRA, P.App) and Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI, P.App) designations.
Suncorp Valuations was started by Tom in 1984 after working in his father’s valuation business in Edmonton and Saskatoon. Suncorp Valuations quickly grew to international operations and within 25 years became one of the largest independent valuation firms in Canada. During his tenure, Suncorp Valuations has increasingly been called on to perform valuations for complex mining, refinery and industrial projects as far away as Bahrain and Dubai.
Suncorp now sets the Canadian standard in condominium appraisal and is North America’s most experienced appraiser of churches and other religious properties. Through Tom’s leadership, Suncorp Valuations has grown to include Risk Management services. Suncorp Valuations routinely values whole municipalities, including road and sewer infrastructure, water treatment facilities, recreation complexes, and has become one of the largest providers of school safety audits in the country.
Tom is recognized as an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), Machinery and Technical Specialties, the American Society of Appraisers. As well, he is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Joanne Cousins has worked with Suncorp Valuations since March 2019. Initially as an external consultant until joining the Executive team on a permanent basis in November 2020 as the VP of Finance. In September 2026, Joanne was appointed Chief Operating Officer, where she assumes responsibility for overseeing company operations and helping drive organizational effectiveness, cross-functional collaboration, operational excellence, and the execution of our strategic priorities.
Joanne has over 20 years of Finance and Accounting experience. Prior to joining Suncorp, Joanne provided consulting services to small and medium sized clients operating in a wide range of industries. These services ranged from new business start-up, expansion, financial reporting, cash management and mentorship.
Joanne obtained her Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University and completed her CPA, CGA designation in October of 2010.
Chetan Thakore serves as Senior Advisor, Strategic Partnerships at Suncorp Valuations. Having begun his career with the company in 1992, Chetan has contributed at every level of the organization and brings decades of industry knowledge, leadership experience, and strategic insight.
Throughout his tenure, Chetan has played a key role in the growth and evolution of Suncorp Valuations. He was a member of the appraisal team responsible for the valuation of several high-profile office towers in New York City, further strengthening the company’s expertise and reputation in complex valuation assignments.
Chetan holds Bachelor’s degrees in Commerce and Political Science. He is a former Licensed Insurance Broker and has been recognized for his contributions to the condominium industry with a Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Condominium Institute.
Joe has over 30 years in the valuation industry and has engaged in a variety of senior roles, including: regional management of valuation services, business development, research and strategic planning.
Joe is recognized as an industry expert in valuations for financial reporting (IFRS/FASB/ASPE/IASB), public sector entities, mass appraisals, insurance placement and other specialty services.
He has overseen high profile valuation projects for landmark properties, such as Le Chateau Frontenac, Royal Canadian Mint and Roy Thompson Hall.
